November - the month of happenings

Gideon left for Israel on the 3rd of November and on the Friday (31 October 2008) Dante had Water games at his school. No sun block was administered and he got 1st degree sunburn. It was ok the first 2 days, but then it turned into blisters. Puss seeping from the bubbling blisters was the first indication that it was a bit more serious than I thought. Luckily Gideon missed all this.
He was booked off for a whole week from school and in that week it was hell, pure hell. I had to rub his very tender skin with an ointment and it seemed that it became worse before it started to heal. It was NOT a pretty sight.
I let him sleep with me so that I could stop him from scratching his burned skin, what a job it was. I literally did not sleep for a week! Come weekend, it started to clear and heal a bit faster and he could go to school on the Monday.
Come Monday, I had the sniffles! Runny nose, sore throat, coughing and an aching body and splitting headache!!!! I was so sick for a whole week! In between Dante's fried skin and my sniffles, I also worked on my commissioned painting and cleaned the house as I have my in-laws coming for a short visit.

I am nearly finished with my painting and I also started a pencil portrait. I am very excited about both as I really think it will be some of my best work so far. The painting will bring in some revenue and I will think about the portrait - do not think I will sell it.

This week Dante started with his year-end exam. On Monday last, he wrote Afrikaans, Wednesday was English and on Friday it will be Math. He was doing ok so far with all his subjects, but today the studying was a bit hard.....he was not focused.

Dante also was awarded the honour of being the winner in a drawing competition. It was for a local Building company that opened a new branch nearby and he was asked to cut the ribbon to officially "open" the ceremonies. On top of that, he will get R500 in prize money for being the winner. The timing is spot on, as his birthday is on the 22nd of November! What a lucky strike for him!

David is doing great. He is working on websites for an extra income. He is really doing a great job with it. He was also a great help when Dante had the bad sunburn episode. AND of course I got coffee, lots of coffee from him. Nice

While all these things happened, we had a daily, and sometimes nightly thunderstorm and if I say thunderstorm, I mean THUNDERstorm. We also had 2 slightly, very slightly threats of hale. But that was so briefly and so slightly, that it is not worth mentioning ;-)
