Things are happening.....

It is nearly my birthday, 2 more days. I used to celebrate my birthday on Republic Day in the "apartsheids" days, but like it is with new governments, nothing is left unchanged. I used to have a public holiday on my birthday, not anymore. This year my birthday falls on a Saturday. I can sleep late! I will buy cake and goodies as I am not a chef or cook or miracle worker in the kitchen. I will have my first birthday with David not around.

I took some photo's yesterday of things in my garden. It came out lovely. Mostly wet things as it was raining the previous day and it created a droplet heaven - so lovely to see. I wanted everybody to see what I saw, so I dared to go outside in the cold. Brrrr it was very cold. One of our puppies, Sheina thought it was playtime and every time I squad down or wanted to take a close-up photo, she jumped on my back, inviting me to play. She gave up eventually as I did not pay attention to her invitations.

Today I actually did nothing special. I checked my mail, I drank some coffee of course and I unpacked 2 boxes. I also did some catching up on Facebook. Tomorrow I have to do a little bit more as I have had 2 of these idle days.

Winter is here, guys. Winter is here and it is getting very cold. For the first time in my entire life I doubt my passionate love for winter. Maybe it is because I am not used to these South African winters anymore. I do not know, I really do not know.

The Wild Wild West got to my Monday!

What a day, what a day(Monday). It was not how I planned to start my week. Firstly, it was cold, very cold. I normally love it when it is cool, but this was cold! And winter is only starting! Discovered a tiny little mouse in my house! I hate mice! It is oh so very clever - this little mouse in my house. I will have to deal with it soon, very soon.
Firstly, David called me highly upset that I have given him the wrong details for his bank account. He was worried that he would not get his very fist paycheck because of that. I tried to fix it for him and then got the info that his account was actually ok, only the branch code was wrong and that it did actually not matter as our bank only needs the account number.
Then I wanted to change a lightbulb as we have a very long corridor and it can be very dark at times in it. As I stood on the ladder changing the bulb, I thought I was doing a good thing. Far from it. I switched the light on and "Phooogh" was all I got. Then I realised that all the lights throughout the house was out of order too! I phoned the Electrical company and they came to fix it. Remember the "Phoogh"? Well, that bulb was dead, I thought it a good idea to borrow one from another lightfixture. As I tried to unscrew the bulb, everything in the house just died. I caused the electricity to trip. At that time the big TV and the computer was running. I freaked out - did I burn their circuitboards, are they ok? What if.....?
Well, the maintenance guys fixed it.....I think they could see the tears were near and that I was stressing out. We had lights again. Wonderfull!
Today (Tuesday) was strangely less stessful, but very busy. Our furniture (from 23 years ago!) came full circle and is back with us again. It is damaged, dirty and in need of tender loving care.
Our security cameras were set up and I can see around my house without going outside! It has 4 cameras and I see in technicolour with sound! Wow! As I am alone at home during the day, I do not have to go outside to investigate a sound or movement....I can do it from the inside!
The lightbulb episode.....today they will come and put extra lighting in my corridor so that I can have LIGHT!

Well, so far so good. My day is better, very cold, but better. I can hear the thunder rumbling outside, so I think it is going to be a VERY cold night toninght. Brrrrrrr

Time, precious time......

Settling in....

We have been in South Africa nearly 2 months now, feels like I have been here much longer. We have had our fair share of worries, frustration, adaptation and what ever else.

David is doing his best in Cape Town, also with his share of little demons gnawing and creating frustration for him, Danté started at his new school and is having a hard time getting into the flow of things, Gideon started working and has to deal with the traffic rush hour everyday to and from work. I am the only one not going anywhere but staying at home...... that does not mean I do not have my frustrations.

I am sorting the boxes, the furniture, the daily cleaning and chores that always pop-up even if you try to ignore them. BUT, I am settling in.

Today, my Baby arrived. No, do not get me wrong..... my parrot Ruby arrived nearly after 2 months of separation since our relocation from Dubai. She is fine, she is OK. I am so happy she is back in our lives. Life is slowly moving into the direction of normal again.

Our Internet connection is also sorted. I am ONLINE again. Although I will be very busy in the house for a while still, I will check in everyday to jot down my thoughts.
